A Rare Phenomenon: Young Man in Dinajpur Produces Rice from Bamboo Flowers!

 

Fulbari, Dinajpur: Young man Sanju Ray from Pakapan village in Eluardi Union, Fulbari Upazila of Dinajpur, has surprised the locals with his extraordinary feat. He has produced rice from bamboo flowers.

Residents of the area say they have never heard of rice being produced from bamboo seeds before. Many believe it to be a rare occurrence.

Sanju Ray says that a month ago, while working in a neighboring village, he learned from an old man about making rice from bamboo seeds. Following the old man’s advice, he collected the seeds and made rice from them.

After first trying it himself and liking it, he started selling it in the market. He is currently selling the rice for 40 taka per kg.

Locals are praising Sanju Ray’s initiative. They believe it has opened up a new avenue of opportunity for the area.

Agriculture Department’s Opinion:

Former Agriculture Department official Pradip Kumar Guha says he has never heard of rice being produced from bamboo seeds before. He believes it is a rare phenomenon and that the matter should be investigated.

Production Process:

  • Seeds are collected from the flowers of the “Bheria” variety of bamboo.
  • The seeds are cleaned by threshing with a broom and then washed in water and dried in the sun.
  • The dried seeds are milled in a rice mill to produce rice.
