199 sacks of Indian sugar seized in Satkhira, businessman fined Tk 20,000
On Wednesday (March 27), during a raid at Sultanganj Boro Bazar, the Consumer Rights Protection Directorate confiscated 199 sacks of illegal Indian sugar. As a result, the businessman, Haji Sadhu, was fined Tk 20,000.
According to the Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Haji Sadhu was selling illegally imported Indian sugar under the brand name of a local company (Subah Sugar). The raid was conducted by a team led by Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Shamim Bhuiyan, Assistant Director of the Consumer Rights Protection Directorate Nazmul Haque, and Customs Revenue Officer, based on confidential information.
The weight of the seized sugar is 9,950 kilograms, with an estimated market value of Tk 1,333,300.
Moreover, the alleged businessman, Haji Sadhu, was fined Tk 20,000 by the concerned court for possession of illegal sugar.
