JS Diagnostic Center Sealed After Child’s Death During Circumcision
Dhaka, February 20, 2024
The JS Diagnostic & Medical Checkup Center in Malibagh Railgate, Dhaka, has been sealed by the health department following the death of a child named Ahnaf Tahmid during his circumcision procedure.
The investigation revealed that JS Diagnostic is not a licensed hospital but a diagnostic center, meaning it was not authorized to administer anesthesia.
Responding to the incident, the child’s father, Fakhrul Alam, filed a case at the Hatirjheel Police Station in Dhaka. Two doctors, hospital director Dr. S.M. Muktadir, and Dr. Mahbub, have been arrested in connection with the case.
The family alleges that Tahmid was given general anesthesia instead of the promised local anesthesia. Although he regained consciousness briefly after the surgery, he vomited and gradually lost consciousness, leading to his death.
The hospital authorities claim that Tahmid had pre-existing health issues and that the family withheld this information, contributing to the tragedy.
This incident comes just weeks after another child, Ayon, died during a circumcision procedure on January 7th.
These incidents highlight the risks associated with circumcision and the importance of seeking medical care from licensed and qualified professionals.
