263 journalists receive 20 crore 3 lakh taka
Dhaka: The government has approved an allocation of 20 crore 3 lakh taka for 263 journalists and their families from the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust. This welfare grant approval has been granted in the second phase of the fiscal year 2023-24.
On Tuesday (February 20), Information and Broadcasting Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat signed the approval document. The distribution of checks for journalists’ welfare will be done soon.
Earlier, in the current fiscal year, in the first phase, a grant of 1 crore 89 lakh 50 thousand taka was provided for the welfare of 236 journalists and their families.
Prime Minister’s initiative for journalists’ welfare
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust in 2014 for the welfare of journalists. Since its establishment, the trust has been providing financial assistance/welfare grants to journalists and families affected by disability, misconduct, and deceased journalists.
So far, 3,932 journalists and their families have been assisted by the trust, receiving a total of 33 crore 74 lakh taka in financial grants.
Distribution process of the grant
Journalists can download the application form from the Journalist Welfare Trust’s website, fill it out, and submit it with the required documents within the specified time. The Board of Trustees reviews the applications and approves the grants.
