Before the surgery, healthcare professionals asked Christian if he wanted to play the guitar during the procedure. During the surgery, Christian Nolen initially hesitated but later successfully played the guitar. Dr. Ricardo Komotar, the Director of the University of Miami Brain Tumor Initiative, commented that if the tumor is in a complex area of the brain, where speech or motor control is affected, continuous monitoring and surgery are necessary.
Komotar explained that the primary purpose of suggesting playing the guitar to Christian was to showcase the skills of the medical team and help keep the crucial functions of the brain active during the surgery.
