Four Arrested in Savar’s Ashulia in Student-Public Killing Case

Ashulia police have arrested four accused in a case filed over the indiscriminate shooting and killing during the anti-discrimination student-public movement. Today, Thursday (January 16), they were sent to court seeking a 7-day remand. Earlier, on Wednesday night, they were arrested in different areas of Ashulia based on information technology and secret reports.

The arrested individuals are:

  • Md. Taijul Talukder (50), son of Azizul Haque Talukder, a Dhaka District Awami League leader, from Tongabari area of Ashulia.

  • Md. Manik Palowan (40), Organizational Secretary of Ashulia Union Jubo League and son of the late Thandu Palowan from Kathgara Palowan Bari area.

  • Md. Ashraf Ahmed (40), General Secretary of Ashulia Union Ward No. 1 Jubo League and son of the late Ahmed Jalil Master from Kathgara area.

  • Md. Mominul Haque (45), President of Ashulia Thana Workers’ League and son of the late Mujibul Haque from South Gazirchat area.

According to police, on August 4 and 5, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations opened fire targeting the student-public movement in Savar and Ashulia. At least 50 people were martyred, and hundreds were injured. Families of the victims filed cases regarding these incidents. The four arrested individuals were named in those cases.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nure Alam Siddiqui stated that as part of a regular operation, the four accused were arrested in various areas of Ashulia on Wednesday night based on technology and secret intelligence. Today (Thursday), they were sent to court seeking remand.
