United States Imposes New Sanctions on Russia for Ukraine Invasion
United States, January 4, 2024
In response to Russia’s ongoing military campaign in Ukraine, the United States today imposed new sanctions on the country. The sanctions include:
- A ban on the broadcasting of four Russian state-owned television channels in the United States
- A ban on the import of goods and technology used in Russia’s military industry
- Sanctions on individuals and entities supporting the Russian military
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the sanctions would weaken Russia’s economy and military capabilities. “We will continue to work to pressure Russia to withdraw its forces from Ukraine and return to the negotiating table,” he said.
In addition to the sanctions, the United States is also providing additional military assistance to Ukraine. This assistance includes rocket launchers, artillery, and anti-tank missiles.
The new sanctions are expected to further increase pressure on Russia.
