Two Brothers Drown in Jamuna River During Eid Visit to Grandfather’s House

 

Jamalpur: Two brothers drowned in the Jamuna River in a tragic incident while visiting their grandfather’s house for Eid celebrations. Minhaz (9) and Minal (7), siblings, died after they went underwater in the river on Saturday (April 13) afternoon. The incident occurred in Char Shishuya village under Sapdhari Union of Islampur Upazila in Jamalpur.

Local sources reported that Minhaz and Minal were the sons of Azhar Ali from Jarutala village of BelgaÚ†Ú¾ia Union. During the Eid holidays, their mother Chayna Akhter along with her husband and two sons went to their grandfather’s house in Char Shishuya village.

On Saturday afternoon, Minhaz and Minal, along with local children, went fishing in a branch of the Jamuna River flowing near their grandfather’s house. Unfortunately, they did not know how to swim and drowned. After a long search, local people recovered their bodies.

Shaha Alam Mandal, Chairman of Sapdhari Union, confirmed the incident and said, “The two brothers came with their parents to their grandfather’s house the day after Eid.”

Suman Talukder, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Islampur Police Station, said, “Police have been sent to the spot after receiving the news of the deaths. Efforts are underway to recover the bodies.”

The heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow of gloom over the area.
