The dream of 30 shopkeepers burnt to ashes on the day of Eid
The festive Eid celebrations turned into a nightmare as a massive fire ripped through a market in Shariyatpur on Thursday, April 11th. Around 30 shops were reduced to ashes in the blaze that erupted at around 8:00 AM in Majhirghat Bazaar, Jajira upazila.
Local sources informed that the fire originated from Yunus Khan’s grocery store. Due to the presence of fuel and gas shops nearby, the flames quickly spread to neighboring stores.
Firefighters along with two units from the fire service and the river police rushed to the scene and battled the blaze for nearly two hours before bringing it under control.
Fire Service and Civil Defense Warehouse Inspector Shankar Biswas confirmed the incident and reported that 30 shops in the market were burned down. The extent of the damage could not be immediately determined.
Devastated shopkeepers shared that they had stocked up heavily for the Eid market. The fire consumed everything, leaving them with nothing.
Local authorities have assured the affected shopkeepers of assistance.
