Security Measures and Commissioner’s Stance for Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024
On Wednesday (January 31), Commissioner Habbibur Rahman provided a briefing to journalists at Suhrawardy Udyan regarding the security arrangements for the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024, which will take place in the same location. In response to a question from the media, Commissioner Habbibur Rahman expressed a stern stance on the issue of books that may cause religious sentiments and go against the law during the fair. He emphasized that books causing harm to religious sentiments will not be sold, and any attempt to undermine law and order through religious provocation will not be tolerated.

Commissioner Habbibur Rahman will be present at the book fair premises throughout the day, and the entire area, including the fair and its surroundings, will be under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Additionally, there will be cybersecurity and drone surveillance systems in place to ensure the safety and security of the fair, minimizing any potential risks.
Furthermore, the commissioner informed that the entire fair will be monitored through the established watchtower, and security personnel will be present to assist with the protection of all stalls at the book fair.

The inauguration of the Book Fair 2024 will be attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on February 1 at 3:00 PM. The fair will run for 29 days, featuring a total of 601 publications from various publishing houses, with almost 60 new publishing entities applying to participate. The organizing institution, Bangla Academy, mentioned that more than 20 new publishing houses from outside Bangladesh may have stalls at the fair.
