Sayyidul Istighfar is a specific supplication (dua) taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Here’s the dua in Arabic:
Allahumma anta rabbi la ilaha illa anta khalaqtani wa ana abduka wa ana ala ahdika wa wadika mastataatu a’uoozubika min sharri ma sanaatu wa a’outhu bika bi khairi ma fa’altahu fa innaka antal-mughfirur-rahim.
Meaning:
Oh Allah, You are my Lord, there is no deity [worthy of worship] except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I will fulfill my covenant and promise [to You] as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done and I seek from You the good of what I have done. Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

- Sayyidul Istighfar can be recited anytime. However, there’s greater reward for reciting it:
- During the last third of the night.
- After prayers.
- Especially on Fridays.
- It’s best to be in a state of wudu (ritual ablution) before reciting.
- Recite with focus and sincerity.
- Try to repeat it frequently.
