Onion price has come down

Onion prices have started to decrease in various markets across the country, including the capital.

Last week, onions were being sold for up to 70 taka per kilogram, but now they are being sold for 50-55 taka. It is believed that the increase in onion supply in the market and the import of onions from India have led to the decrease in prices, according to traders.

It has been observed in the market that in the Kawran Bazar of the capital, locally produced onions are being sold for 50-55 taka, domestic onions for 45-50 taka, and Indian onions for 40-45 taka. Last week, these onions were sold for 70, 60, and 50 taka respectively.

Traders say that the decrease in onion prices has brought some relief to the market, but further reduction in prices is necessary. They hope that if the supply of onions in the market increases further and imports from India resume, prices will decrease even more.

Retailers say that there is currently more onion available in the market compared to demand, which is affecting prices.

Meanwhile, on Friday (March 29), the Ministry of Commerce announced that 1,650 metric tons of onions could be imported from India. It is hoped that with the import of these onions, the supply in the market will increase further and prices will decrease.

The government has approved the policy for importing 50,000 metric tons of onions from India on Wednesday (March 27). It is hoped that with the import of these onions, prices will be further controlled in the market.

Both buyers and sellers are optimistic about the decrease in onion prices. They believe that if stability returns to the market, ordinary people will also benefit to some extent.
