Man Arrested in Gobindaganj for Burning Holy Quran
GAIBANDHA, April 16: Police yesterday arrested Mohammad Siju Mia from Dhanikhunia village under Gobindaganj police station in Gaibandha district, for burning the holy Quran.
According to local sources, Siju Mia stole the Quran from the local Kazibari Jame Mosque on the night of April 13th and set it on fire in a bamboo grove belonging to Sarowar Kawser Lavlu in the same village. A local resident, Ranju Mia, witnessed the incident and along with others tried to apprehend Siju Mia. Later, with the help of police, he was arrested late at night.
Following his arrest, Siju Mia confessed that he burnt the Quran with the intention of hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims. He further admitted to stealing and burning 10 more Qurans earlier.
Siju Mia was arrested by a team led by Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj Police Station Md. Shamsul Alam Shah, SI Proloy Kumar Barma, SI Md. Rashedul Islam and other forces.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police (C-Circle) Gaibandha Uday Kumar Saha said that Siju Mia was arrested for hurting religious sentiments. A case has been filed in this regard and the accused will be produced in court today.
