Khaleda Zia Returns Home After Medical Treatment

After five months of medical treatment, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has returned to her residence in Gulshan. On Thursday (January 11) around 5 PM, she left the hospital to go home, as confirmed by BNP’s Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.

Shairul Kabir Khan stated, “The Medical Board has decided to provide necessary treatment to Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan residence from now on.”

Khaleda Zia, 78, has been dealing with various health issues, including heart problems and cirrhosis of the liver, in addition to other physical complexities. After being admitted to Evercare Hospital last year on August 9, she underwent treatment there until recently.

In June last year, an angiogram revealed blockages in three of her heart vessels, with one requiring a stent. Later, on August 9, due to deteriorating health, she was once again admitted to Evercare Hospital. Since then, she has been undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Khaleda Zia’s parole, which temporarily suspended her sentence, expired on September 24. Prior to its expiration, an application was submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs on behalf of her family, seeking permission for her release and advanced medical treatment abroad.

In light of the ongoing situation, the recent decision allows Khaleda Zia to receive treatment at her Gulshan residence, as she remains under the jurisdiction of the current executive order. The terms include that she will continue medical care locally and will not travel outside the country.

Khaleda Zia, currently not serving a sentence due to the ongoing executive order, remains free pending further legal proceedings.
