In Jagannathpur, Sunamganj, local residents and devout Muslims organized a human chain to protest against Baul songs, which they believed were being conducted in the name of Eid celebrations.
Earlier, the youth from Bagmoyna Tajpur village, part of the Raninganj Union in the upazila, along with nearby villages, had taken the initiative to arrange Baul songs for Eid celebrations.
Later, on Wednesday night, from 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM, the organizers, under the name “Bondhu Mohol,” held the Baul music event on a vacant piece of land near the Bagmoyna Tajpur Bridge.
Upon receiving the news, local and religiously devout Muslims became agitated. Around 11:30 AM on Wednesday, they gathered under the banner of the Combined Muslim Community and formed a human chain to protest against the Baul songs.
The event was led by Mawlana Fazlul Islam, Vice-President of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Jagannathpur Upazila Committee. Speakers included Kazi Mawla, Mufti Nazrul Islam Nizami of Raninganj Bazar DS Alim Madrasa, Mawlana Bahar Uddin, Principal of Jalalpur Kasimul Ulum Madrasa, and Mawlana Nuruzzaman, Principal of Hardgram Qawmi Madrasa. During the protest, more than a hundred local Muslims and madrasa students participated.
The speakers demanded the cancellation of the Baul song event during the human chain and protest gathering.
