Gazipur Road Melts Under Scorching Heat!
Tuesday, April 23, 2024
The scorching heatwave in Gazipur is causing the asphalt on the Maaona-Kaliakoir regional road to melt, disrupting traffic flow and causing inconvenience for locals.
Several Kilometers of Melted Asphalt
A visit to the area revealed that several kilometers of asphalt on the Maaona-Kaliakoir regional road, near Medi Ashulia, have melted due to the intense heat and sun. This sticky surface is making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to navigate.
Struggles for Drivers
The melted asphalt is causing problems for drivers, forcing them to slow down and creating a sense of unease. CNG auto-rickshaw driver Shahjahan Mia said, “I haven’t seen anything like this on this road in years. It’s scary to drive with the pitch melting. Passengers are also having trouble getting off.”
Possible Cause of Melting Asphalt
Locals suspect that the use of excessive bitumen during road construction may be the reason behind the melting asphalt. However, Abhi Ahmed, an engineer from the Roads and Highways Department (RHD), stated, “This road was repaired a few months ago. The recent heatwave has caused the asphalt to melt in several places. This hasn’t happened before.”
Weather Forecast
According to the Department of Meteorology, Gazipur recorded a high of 39.7 degrees Celsius two days ago. The current temperature is 38 degrees Celsius, with concerns that it might rise further in the coming days.
Conclusion
The extreme heatwave in Gazipur is causing the road surface to melt, leading to disruptions in traffic flow and daily life. The relevant authorities need to take swift action to address this issue.
