Md. Jihad Mia
District representative Gaibandha.
Details of the Incident:
Rifat Hossain (17), son of Jainik Milon Hafez from Paschimbati village in Gaibandha’s Saghata sub-district, and Somrat Mia (17), son of Afzal Hossain from the same sub-district’s Shyampur village, became friends while attending the same school. Both were addicted to online gambling.
One day, Somrat lost money gambling online and pawned his favorite camera to Rifat. Sometime later, Rifat also lost money gambling and sold the pawned camera to someone else.
A few days later, Somrat went to Rifat’s house to get his camera back. However, since Rifat had already sold it, a heated argument ensued. In a fit of rage, Rifat killed Somrat and dumped his body in the septic tank of the toilet next to his house.
Aftermath:
When Somrat went missing, his parents filed a police report. The police began their investigation and brought Rifat in for questioning. During interrogation, Rifat confessed to the entire incident.
Later, with the help of the fire service, the police recovered Somrat’s body from the septic tank next to Rifat’s house.
