Forbidden to smoke cigarettes! The teacher was stabbed

Kushtia College Teacher Stabbed, House Vandalized for Prohibiting Smoking

Kushtia: Economics department teacher of Halisa College in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia, Shamin Hossain, was stabbed for prohibiting smoking in public. The teacher’s brother was also injured in the incident. The incident took place on Friday (April 19) night around 9 pm in Farazipara of Hatsharipur Union under Sadar upazila.

Details of the Incident:

According to local and police sources, on Friday evening around 7:30 pm, some youths of the area were smoking cigarettes in a shop near Farazipara Jame Mosque. At that time, the college teacher Shamin Hossain forbade them from smoking cigarettes. This led to an argument which turned violent.

Attack and Vandalism:

Seven people, including local youths Jay, Pranto, Pranth, Jisan, Safiayet, Rabbi, and Habibur Rahman Hapy, stabbed Shamin Hossain and his brother Shahin Biswas with indigenous weapons. They also vandalized their houses and fled.

Treatment and Case:

Locals rescued Shamin and his brother and admitted them to Kushtia General Hospital. Shamin Hossain filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station naming 7 people. Police arrested 2 accused the same night.

Police Statement:

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station Sheikh Sohel Rana said that the arrested 2 accused have been sent to jail through court. Police are conducting raids to arrest the remaining accused.

This incident is shameful and worrying for the teaching community. Smoking is a personal choice, but there is a legal ban on public smoking. People from all walks of life should abide by the law and be respectful of each other.
