Schools to remain open on Saturdays from May 4th onwards: Education Ministry announcement
The Ministry of Education has announced that schools will remain open on Saturdays from May 4th until further notice.
This decision was taken on Thursday afternoon, April 25th.
According to sources, the current temperature is not the highest ever recorded in Bangladesh, and the temperature is not the same in all regions.
All preparations have been made to reopen educational institutions from Sunday, April 28th.
Students will be refrained from any activity outside the classroom, and assemblies will also remain suspended until further notice.
Educational institutions had not been opened earlier due to the health of students, considering the intense heatwave even after a long vacation.
On April 21st, it was announced that the holidays would be extended and educational institutions would be closed until April 25th. Classes were supposed to resume on April 28th after a 7-day closure due to Fridays and Saturdays being April 26th and 27th.
Schools in Bangladesh generally have weekly holidays on Fridays and Saturdays. In previous years, students also got holidays throughout the month of Ramadan.
This year, there was a debate that even went to court over whether schools would be open during Ramadan.
To avoid the debate, Education Minister Mahbub Hasan Chowdhury Naufel had hinted at keeping schools open on Saturdays.
Finally, that hint is being implemented from May 4th onwards.
