Chopped and killed for not giving away chips-cigarettes!
Munshiganj: A mudir (small grocery) shopkeeper in the Sadar Upazila of Munshiganj was murdered over non-payment of dues for chips and cigarettes. The police have arrested the suspect involved in the incident.
The deceased was identified as Mosarraf Hossain (55), a resident of Kagzipara area in the upazila.
The accused, Rubel Mia (35), is a resident of the same area and is the younger brother of Councilor Sohel Mia of Ward No. 7 of Mir Kadim Municipality.
Incident Details:
Locals reported that Mosarraf Hossain’s mudir shop was located next to his house. He used to sleep in the shop every night. On Monday night (April 29), Rubel Mia came to the shop and demanded chips and cigarettes on credit. When the shopkeeper refused to extend credit, an argument ensued between them. At one point, Rubel Mia took out a knife, stabbed Mosarraf, and fled the scene.
In critical condition, locals rushed Mosarraf to Munshiganj General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police Role:
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Thandar Khayrul Islam stated that Rubel Mia has been arrested following a police operation. A blood-stained knife was also recovered from him. Preparation for filing a case in this regard is underway.
This incident has created widespread panic in the local area.
