The transgender-themed drama “Rupantare” starring Farhan Ahmed Jovan has become embroiled in controversy. The drama has been removed from YouTube due to criticism and a case has also been filed against it.
On Tuesday (April 16), a case was filed against 6 people including the actors and actresses of the drama “Rupantare” and the director at the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court 1 No. Amiri, Noakhali. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Kawsar Ul Jihad was the plaintiff in the case.
Meanwhile, the director of the drama “Rupantare”, Rafat Majumdar Rinku, said that the audience may not have understood the concept of the drama. He further said, “I am seeing a lot of things on social media about the matter, but I don’t want to comment on the matter.”
Actors and actresses face criticism
Actors Farhan Ahmed Jovan and actress Samira Khan Mahi, who acted in the drama, have faced severe criticism. The audience alleges that the ‘transgender’ issue has been misrepresented in the drama.
Following this criticism, Jovan and Mahi’s Facebook pages have disappeared. Jovan said, “I don’t understand why the drama is being criticized so much.” He further said, “Since people are not liking it, we will not be able to do such things anymore. I will not do them again from now on.”
