Barisal, January 6, 2024: In Barisal city, incidents of arson have occurred between two primary schools and the election office of the Awami League in the Uzirpur Upazila. However, the police are reportedly unaware of the events.
The incidents of arson took place from Saturday (January 6) dawn until morning. In Ward 12 of Barisal city, Tutul Choudhury, the convener of the election steering committee of the Awami League, reported witnessing a fire erupting at the non-Awami League election office late at night. The incident resulted in the destruction of the office’s chair table. A petrol bottle was found at the scene.
Regarding the incident, Arichul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station in Barisal, stated, “I don’t know anything about this incident. I’ve heard something about it.”
Tutul Choudhury, the convener of the election steering committee for Ward 12 of the Awami League, stated that miscreants with ill intentions are presumed to have set fire to multiple primary schools in different directions. An attempt was made to set a room in one of the primary schools on fire using kerosene at night, but the fire was quickly extinguished with minimal damage.
Through this incident, concerns have been raised among the local people about the popularity of the government and, especially, the leaders of the Awami League.
