Alleged Arson Attack on Md Shaheen Al Mamun’s Residence Amid Political Vendetta

An arson attack was reportedly carried out on the residence of Md Shaheen Al Mamun, Joint Organizing Secretary of the Kalihati Upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, in Kalihati upazila of Tangail, allegedly driven by political vendetta.

According to local sources, following the fall of the Bangladesh Awami League government after the July mass uprising, leaders and activists of the party’s affiliated and associate organizations have been facing intense pressure and acts of retaliation from opposition groups. In this context, Md Shaheen Al Mamun, who had been serving as the Joint Organizing Secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League in Kalihati, reportedly became a target.

Sources said that on August 7, 2024, miscreants set fire to Shaheen Al Mamun’s residence, causing extensive damage as household furniture and other belongings were burned. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Following the incident, tension has prevailed in the area. Local residents said that the affected family is living in fear and insecurity. They have demanded a proper investigation by the concerned authorities and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.
