Allegation of irregularities and corruption against agriculture officer-

Gaibandha: Allegations of irregularities and corruption have been raised against the Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (BS) of Palashbari Upazila Agriculture Office, Khairul Islam. The allegations state that he withdrew 125 kg of monsoon paddy seeds and 50 kg of fertilizer using the ID cards of five members of the same family and sold them in the market.

Details of the Allegations:

  • April 22, Monday, 12:00 PM: Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Khairul Islam withdrew 125 kg of monsoon paddy seeds (25 kg each under five names) and 50 kg of DEP 10KG Potash (MOP) fertilizer (10 kg each under five names) using the ID cards of five members of the same family from Daulatpur and Hossainpur 5 No. Block.

  • Sale of Withdrawn Fertilizer and Seeds: The withdrawn fertilizer and seeds were being sold at a shop on Boro Shimulta Road in collusion with Mo: Ratan Mia, an assistant teacher of Bengullia High School.

  • Assistant Teacher’s Statement: Assistant teacher Ratan Mia has claimed that he is only a carrier and has nothing to do with the matter. He said that Khairul Islam lives next to his house and sometimes sells fertilizer and seeds through him. He further informed that the seeds have been kept in a shop on Kashiabari Road and the fertilizer is being sold at a shop on Boro Shimulta Road for Tk 1700 per two bags.

 

 

Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer’s Statement: When contacted regarding the allegations, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Khairul Islam said that his superior officer is in training in Dhaka. He said that the matter will be discussed once he returns.

Upazila Agriculture Officer’s Statement: Upazila Agriculture Officer Fatema Kausar Mishu said that she was not aware of the matter and that action would be taken subject to investigation.
