A former chairman and Awami League activist has passed away in the Bogura District Jail.

Md. Abdul Matin Mithu (65), an Awami League worker, died in Bogura District Jail. He was the son of Mozahar Ali from Boitia Bhanga in Gabtali Upazila, Bogura, and had previously served as the chairman of Ward 6 of Gabtali Durga Hata Union and the general secretary of the Awami League.
The jail superintendent of Bogura District Jail, Syed Shah Sharif, confirmed the news. Mithu was arrested and sent to jail on August 5 following political cases related to the anti-discrimination student movement.
On December 9, around 3 a.m., he experienced chest pain and his condition deteriorated. He was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital with the assistance of the prison authorities, where he passed away at around 10:30 a.m. while undergoing treatment.
After completing legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
