Husband and Wife Attacked Over Land Dispute in Taltali, Seriously Injured
A couple in Taltali, Barguna, was brutally attacked over a land dispute, leaving both with severe head injuries.
The incident took place on Tuesday (January 28) at around 10 AM in Pajra Bhanga village of the upazila. The injured victims are Abdul Barek Hawladar (45) and his wife Kamala Begum (40), residents of the village and son of the late Hashem Hawladar.
Details of the Attack
According to eyewitnesses and victims, Abdul Barek had been cultivating the land for 30-40 years. However, for the past year, his brother Joynal had been claiming ownership of the land. On the day of the incident, when Barek went to cultivate the land, Joynal and his sons Rahman, Zahirul, Saidul, along with 4-5 others, launched a violent attack using sharp weapons and iron rods, injuring both Barek and his wife.
Locals rescued them and took them to Taltali Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor provided first aid and later referred them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal for advanced treatment.
Eyewitness Statements
Residents stated that although Abdul Barek had been cultivating the land for years, Joynal had recently claimed ownership. When Barek attempted to work on the land, the dispute escalated into violence. Initially, Barek was attacked, and when his wife tried to save him, she was also struck on the head. Their son also suffered serious hand injuries when he tried to intervene.
Current Situation and Administration’s Response
Kamala Begum required eight stitches on her head, and her condition remains critical, according to medical sources.
Efforts to contact the accused were unsuccessful.
Taltali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Jalal stated that no written complaint had been filed yet. Legal action will be taken once a complaint is received.
